It’s the most wonderful time of the year. With Thanksgiving in less than a week, Pittsburgh is a flutter with holiday happenings. From ice skating to Black Friday, Santa’s big visit is just around the corner. If you aren’t quite prepared for the holiday hustle, MANIAC can point you in the right direction – downtown Macy’s on Light Up Night. Every year the city lights up to kick off the season and Macy’s premieres their new window display. On Friday, November 16, Macy’s celebrates “The Magic of Christmas.”
Decorated with care, the four windows along Smithfield Street will touch on Macy’s seasonal traditions as well as local Pittsburgh iconic landmarks and architecture. The windows celebrate the holiday spirit and holiday traditions, such as Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and “Yes Virginia” – the animated special that depicts the story of eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlan in 1897 asking if there is a Santa Claus. In addition to these Macy’s traditions, the windows will also have a distinctly local feel as they celebrate iconic Pittsburgh landmarks and architecture like The Rink at PPG Place and the Historic Corner Clock.
The unveiling will start with Franklin Regional Marching band followed by very special guest performances and appearances by Gospel singer/songwriter Travis Malloy, iHeart Radio pop sensations, For The Foxes and rising pop star, Jasmine V. The sounds of the season will fill the city streets.
In case your inner Grinch still isn’t satisfied, maybe some Pittsburgh Football stars will fill you with Christmas cheer. Completing the night of all-star line-guests are Pittsburgh Football stars, Maurkice Pouncey and special guest host, Ryan Mundy. They will be joined with the children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the man of the hour, Santa Claus.
Macy’s will also host fun activities in store including crafts for kids, face painting, balloon art, special meet and greets with KOOL-AID Man, Radio Disney and performances from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School.
It all starts November 16 at 6PM at the Macy’s downtown. It’s a night you don’t want to miss so bundle up and celebrate Christmastime in Steel City.
