While a trip to the Hamptons sounds like the perfect weekend getaway, it is also a completely unrealistic one for a group of girls in their twenties. So instead of spending three months rent on one weekend trip, I decided to take a look into a few less expensive options for my girlfriends and I to get away from the city chaos and simply relax.
So I began asking around for ideas from friends and family for less expensive alternatives to the Hamptons. To my surprise, I began compiling a list of inexpensive weekend getaway spots relatively close to the city of Pittsburgh.
After a few days of online research, phone calls, and debate, we finally decided on a weekend trip that would satisfy all our wants and needs, both finically and recreationally. We needed a getaway destination that allowed us to spend little money on transportation and stay, while still offering a long list of activities for us to do throughout the day and night.
The consensus: Put-in-Bay located on Lake Erie.
Put-In-Bay is a short 4-hour drive and quick ferry ride away from the city of Pittsburgh with plenty to do in one weekend for an uncompromisable group of girls on a budget.
For the few who want to lounge around the pool all day in the sun, the island has a number of reasonably priced hotels with outdoor pools to make them happy. For those who want to be a little more adventurous, the island offers jet ski rentals, parasailing, boating, and many more outdoor activities. And for the girls who burn if they are in the sun for longer than 20 minutes even with sunscreen on, the island has a couple of wineries to keep them occupied.
Though we were all looking for different day time activities to do on our weekend getaway, we all agreed that once night rolls around, we want two things: food and fun. Thankfully, Put-In-Bay has a number of restaurants with delicious menus.
Though it is not the Hamptons, it is a great weekend getaway for a group of twenty-something girls on a budget.
