You reach for the remote, click the power button, and ta-da! You’re watching your favorite episode of Scandal while still managing to stay in the same amazingly comfortable position you started in. It’s that simple. No hassle, no labor, just a simply click. So remind me again of why everything in life can’t be that simple for us women?
A Massachusetts company is taking the simplicity us women seek to a whole other level—by developing a remote that can control one of our most loved and hated parts of our bodies: the reproductive system.
MicroCHIPS has invented a contraceptive chip that can be implanted in a woman’s body to regulate her reproductive system for up to 16 years. This wireless chip is designed to be implanted under the skin in one of three places: the buttock, upper arm, or abdomen. The chip works by releasing a daily dose of levonorgestrel, a hormone that is found in many of the contraceptives doctors prescribe today.
With a simple click of the remote, you can deactivate the chip and end your dosage. And it’s just that simple to turn the chip back on to start receiving your daily dose again. While only doctors can control the hormone dosage, this device is being designed to give women complete control of their bodies and contraception decisions.
Though this device has years of fixing niches, such as security problems with its wireless data, and clinical testing before it will be available to women, this remote control birth control might just be the solution to finding the perfect contraceptive. What are your thoughts?
