Kim Kardashian recently tweeted, “Whoever made up that you can’t wear white after Labor Day was NOT fashionable.” Rachel Zoe devoted her Labor Day “Zoe Report” to the very same topic….and we couldn’t agree more!
Just like the notion that you can’t wear black to a wedding, not being “allowed” to wear white hues after Labor Day is an antiquated and irrelevant notion. In fact, fall and winter fashions are giving us plenty of stylish reasons to break this old-school rule and to go ahead and wear those tones of white!
Kate Middleton rocked a white trench coat last winter, the Chanel Boy Bag is white-hot, and the Philip Lim Wool-blend Studded Vest in off-white or this haute hippie blouse paired with the Abby Studded Peep-Toe Boots are even MORE reasons to go pale and pure as the months turn colder.
According to White House | Black Market, who offers a great black and white high-contrast cardigan for just $88, “The rule about not wearing white after Labor Day is old fashioned. The new take on white is to be creative, which is our philosophy. In fall and winter, you can wear white blouses, white denim with boots, and even white chiffon when paired with heavier fabrics, like sweaters and opaque tights. It’s a super-chic look year round when it’s styled in a modern way.”
So, turn heads and defy convention as you strut your stuff in wow-’em whites….if you dare!
