Maybe it’s the Boho hipster part of myself that is all too often hidden under sparkly, fleeting trends and other absurdities, or, maybe it’s my obsession with all things Rachel Zoe. But, I must say that I adore the cape trend this fall. I’ve always liked capes and ponchos, and am just glad that they are coming back into style. (Even though I don’t feel that they ever truly left!)
My favorite is the versatile Cape Dress by DKNY, but I also adore the Ringspun Hooded Cape from ASOS. I also like the many options of capes by Rachel Zoe that are available at Nordstrom and through QVC, as well as the Chanel versions that I’ve stumbled across online. Ralph Lauren’s trench version of a cape, and the Issa bell-sleved cape dress also won big in my book. However, there are even versions of capes and ponchos at less costly retailers like Forever 21, American Apparel, and H&M, if those better fit your budget.
The tip is to allow it to be the standout piece of your outfit, and don’t overwhelm it with “theme” accessories…..after all, you don’t want it to end up looking costumey.
Done correctly, ponchos and capes can be versatile statement pieces that are all at once chic and effortless, too.
Whether they are patterned or plain, hooded or belted, bright or subdued, try a poncho this fall and winter for an understated yet elegant look that’s pure sophistication!
