Luckily, this is not about the old French crime novel, instead, it is simply about the color yellow and how it manages to brighten up a room. I know, yellow? Ew. But hear me out, yellow is actually a recommended color for your more common rooms, living rooms and even bedrooms. Wanna know why? Well, yellow is actually proven to put you in a better mood and bring optimism into your home. No, it’s not because it just so happens to be the same color as french fries, cold lemonade, or sunflowers. Yellow makes you happy or happier because it represents the color of the sun in our minds. Weird, right? Especially since yellow is practically the last color you use to decorate your room or place for guests. But, after I show you some of these design schemes and tips for brighting up a space, you might just change your mind about the impossible color. First, let’s start with whee it starts every morning, breakfast.
When you mix yellow with hints of orange and even teals or light blues, it’ll create that citrus-inspired eating area. It’ll wake you up in the morning with a grin and ready for a tall glass of OJ. Even if you don’t have large windows like in this photo to the left, large light fixtures also help bring in that missing the shine. The yellows and oranges will reflect that warm feeling, causing a great start to your day.
When you’re not at home for breakfast, or maybe don’t even feel like having it, a living room with hint a yellow is also I great way to keep the good mood flow going. As you can see, yellow doesn’t always have to be our base color. Just a little pop of it really captures the eye and brings your attention to that part of the room. In this example, a couch. Really any kind of chair, large pairing, or rug will have the same affect. It also inspires a little touch of contemporary. If your more old-fashioned and like the natural looks of things, a nice straw yellow or french vanilla is a great way to hide that hint of yellow in a room without drawing much attention at all. The grey/yellow color scheme is also very popular. Although it find of defeats the purpose of the whole “sun” and kind of brings clouds into your space, it is a pleasant balance that’ll bring down the harshness of the yellow if it’s too bright.
And finally, where we all end up by the end of the night, our bedrooms. I know when you go to bed, you’re going to sleep, but if you can go to sleep in a good mood, it’s known to help you wake up with one as well. This is where the white/yellow schemes come in. This creates a peaceful and light space to drift to sleep, and helps to wake up with the rays of the morning sun. With the aid of some light sheets, a yellow and white quilt, and maybe even some flowers like pictured, it really makes for a calm place to go on a rainy day, or to relax after a long day.
So, no matter what other people try to tell you about the color yellow, be bold, be happy, and experiment with your inner interior designer. You’ll be surprised how much pleasure it can bring to a space, opening it up, bringing sophistication and style. Get to it Maniacs.
