Jane The Virgin Style
For me to binge on a series on Netflix, it has to meet my list of criteria. For an example, the location of the show has to be beautiful (having NYC as the backdrop for Gossip Girl definitely boosted its ratings and who doesn’t want to live in the charming river-side North Carolina town of Tree Hill in OTH?). Second, there has to be some sort of romance plot, after all, I am a girl. Lastly, the character has to have awesome style! The OC had all the Cali circa early 2000s beach outfits we could ask for and obviously the Gossip Girl is a front runner when it comes to high-end looks. My new Netflix endeavor, Jane the Virgin, hits all three criteria check marks, especially the style! In case you are unfamiliar, Jane the Virgin is about a 20-something aspiring writer and (you guessed it!) a virgin in Miami who was accidentally artificially inseminated and becomes pregnant. There are so many other factors and plot twists that are included in this series that make it so addicting, but Jane’s outfits are the main reason why I continue to click “Next Episode”.
Her style can’t quite be described in one word, but a few that come to mind are: bright, bold, simple, romantic, floral, and feminine. Think girl-next-door that is girlie, exuberant, and a hopeless romantic. Since Jane is a virgin on the show, her style represents the innocence and modesty of the character, but is also a great representation of a young Latina woman living in bright and sunny Miami. 9 times out of 10, Jane is rocking a dress each scene and I find myself thinking “Man, I wish I had that dress” every episode. I think the fact that I live in Western PA where the winter season never seems to end makes me wish I had Jane’s easy and breezy wardrobe more than ever. I did a little research and found some beautiful dresses and skirts that replicate Jane’s style and will also make a great shopping list for all of you as summer rounds the corner for us Northern folks! Scroll down to check out my Jane look-a-like picks and make sure to watch Jane the Virgin on Netflix to catch even more great looks from Jane!
Denim Jacket from Forever 21, $29.90 and Vero Moda Skater Dress from ASOS, $26
A jean jacket and a plain, bright dress is classic Jane. What I love about her style is that she makes care-free and simple look pretty and put together.
Love Me in Tye Dye Maxi by Free People, $199
For any loyal Jane the Virgin fans, you know that Jane’s waitress uniform at the Marbella Hotel looks very similar to this maxi dress from Free People. The different shades of blue and tie-dye pattern screams South Beach. If only every workplace had this uniform!
Skater Dress in Pretty Lilac Floral by ASOS, $50
Another signature look for Jane on the show are dresses that have floral print and are light, breezy, and feminine. This dress from ASOS perfectly embodies the spirit of Jane.
Sweet Thing Tunic by Free People, $118
One of the biggest plot lines of the show is that Jane is indeed a virgin, so the stylists take this characteristic about her and apply it to Jane’s wardrobe in a literal sense. She wears a lot of dresses in shades of white and cream to give off pure and innocent vibes, but they are also beautiful looks for summer. This Free People tunic fits like a babydoll dress that will for sure pull off this signature look from Jane.
