After moving into my first apartment, I realized that it takes much more than two couches and a coffee table to make an apartment feel like a home. As my roommates and I finally sat down in the living room after a long day of cleaning and unpacking, we all agreed that we something didn’t feel quite right with our place. So the discussion began about what needed to be done to transform our tiny four-bedroom apartment into a home. After a few minutes, it was inevitable that the only way we were going to feel at home in our new place was to add our own personal touches to give our apartment personality.
So, the hunt for the perfect home décor began the next day. We spent roughly seven hours, driving all around Pittsburgh to find the perfect finishing touches we were going to use in our home. We went everywhere from craft stores to vintage stores to the typical home décor retail chains. We came home with a few frames, a canvas, a vase, candles, flowers, blankets, and a lamp.
As we began to decorate our living space, we were astonished at how much a few decorations could completely change the overall appearance of the place. The walls were no longer bare, the coffee table was no longer naked, and the harsh, over-head lighting was no longer beaming down on us.
That night, when we sat in the living room to discuss what we still needed to do to the apartment, it was different. We were no longer just sitting in our apartment, but rather snuggled up on the couches in our home, with familiar faces surrounding us in frames. In one day we had completely transformed a house into a home thanks to a few personal touches and the scent of a clean linen candle.
