From feathered fascinators to jewelry, hair extensions, and more, the fluffy feel of feathers has been all over the runways and the streets alike.
However, this trend is ruffling some feathers in various pockets of the population. PETA has been vocal in making their disapproval clear (though some feathers used for fashion are surely faux!) and, believe it or not, the fly-fishing community has been outraged.
The use of feathers in fashion has apparently driven up costs of fly fishing supplies, and making it harder for fly fishermen to get the materials that they need.
“The fashion world is a vastly larger animal than the fly fishing world,” Mr. Whiting, owner of the largest fly fishing feather production farm, said. “We can’t keep up with demand. Things are pretty crazy.”
So – it’s a war over the plumes. Will fashion or fishing win out?
