Doxies Are a Girl’s Best Friend
Have you howled at the moon lately? Or ever had a mischievous desire to chase your own tail? Well, neither has Claire Wolfson, but she sure has got in touch with her wild side. After feeling “definitely uninspired and ready for change,” at a corporate job, Wolfson, after much soul searching, a one week grad school stint, and a move back home, started her own business. In the dead of winter, in a tiny coastal Cape Cod town, W L F H N D: Of Hound and Humankind (a blog dedicated to serving the fashion needs of animal lovers and their pooches) and Bean Goods, (a dachshund themed clothing line) were born.
Who is the inspiration behind both of these business ventures? None other than Claire’s celebrity doxie dog, Bean. “He’s hilarious and full of personality…A real ham!” Bean rose to stardom when Derek Blasberg, editor at large of Harper’s Bazaar and notorious supermodel affiliate, instagrammed a picture of Karlie Kloss sporting her Bean Goods doxie luxe tote.
When he isn’t being photographed for new apparel to be featured in Nylon Magazine, you can find Bean hanging with his celebrity BFFs. Through her pooch’s connections, Claire met meme king and Instagram celebrity, @thefatjewish and his dog, Toast, a King Charles who boasts a mere 255,000 followers on Instagram. A quarter of a million followers sounds like quite a lot for someone who can’t even hold an iPhone, but Claire will totally advocate throwing a follow to our fury friends. “I love them,” she says of dogs on social media, “They’re way more interesting and intriguing than human celebrities!” She even loves doggy-based news, especially “stories about hounds helping humans through emotional support as service dogs.” Though Bean isn’t a service dog but, he certainly has a big heart. “He is very in tune with human’s emotions and knows what to do to cheer you up if you’re feeling down in the dumps,” Claire says.
Claire has always had this special interest in dogs so when she had to “reset” her life she turned to her very own furry friends for an answer. Both W L F H N D and Bean Goods are inspired by her love of dogs. Claire elaborates, “Dogs are beautiful creatures inside and out. I feel like you can see inside their little souls through their eyes.” The Bean Goods’ “Crazy Wiener Dog Lady” tee pokes fun at Claire’s reality: that Bean and his brother, Van, have changed her life. “Without them I don’t know where I would be. My goals have always been to unite with like minded hounds and humans who share a love for dogs, design, and adventure. I love this community.”
