Electric Daisy Carnival hit New York this Memorial Day Weekend bringing with it 40 of the top DJs and over 100,000 dancing fans. This electronic dance music festival spanned the entire weekend, making for two straight days of thumping base, neon clad youth, and nonstop dancing. Exceeding last year’s attendance by the tens of thousands, festivals like this one continue to gain popularity. EDC began just last year, making it the second Electronic Music Festival to take place in NYC behind the more extensive Electronic Zoo on Rendell’s Island.
Beginning with an intense thunderstorm early Saturday afternoon, fans were not deterred in the slightest. After the storm passed, thousands emerged from the infamous MetLife Stadium eager to see headliners like Krewella, Hardwell, and Afrojack. The festival featured four stages, each appealing to a specific sub-genre of the Electronic Dance movement. Fans could choose between a wide array of these genres including house, trans, dubstep, etc.
Beautiful string lights, carnival rides, and neon flowers came to live as the evening progressed. KineticFeild, or better known as the main stage, revealed its signature owl centerpiece. The 40 foot tall sculpture included extensive moving parts, enhancing each show with its real time music reactivity. The festivities continued on Day Two, and brought with it beautiful summer weather. Dancing under the blue sky and summer sun, thousands returned to see epic performances by top DJs such as Calvin Harris and Tiesto. Fans left the stadium Sunday night begging for more, proving that Electric Daisy Carnival’s second year in New York was the ultimate success.
