Meet Music Talent IYVES
Your ears will thank you.
In a time when most all music sounds the same, synthetically modified to get radio play, IYVES is a breath of fresh (otherworldly) air. Her husky voice perfectly compliments the introspective lyrics and ethereal tracks she performs. We got to talk to IYVES about how she got where she is and what we can expect from her in the future, because like us, you are going to want to know.
Maniac Magazine: How did you get into music?
IYVES: I’ve been singing and making music from a pretty young age. My parents always had music playing in the house when I was growing up. My younger sister picked up the guitar when she was about 7 and we would sit around and write songs all the time. There was nothing else we’d rather do.
MM: After growing up in Colorado, how have you adjusted to life in New York?
IYVES: I definitely get the occasional longing for home and the mountains but New York has been such an amazing place to live and experience life. There is so much going on… always! I make sure to find time to spend outdoors though – I need that to be my best self.
MM: Your real name is Hannah, so why did you choose IYVES and how do you connect with this moniker?
IYVES: My music and sound has evolved so much over the past couple years that I felt it was an opportunity to step forward with the new pseudo name, IYVES. IYVES embodies the strong and ethereal music that I tend to make.
MM: Describe your sound in your own words.
IYVES: My sound is the place between the organic sounds and textures of the earth and outer space.
MM: What message do you want people to get out of your music?
IYVES: My hope is to be able to tap into the minds of my listeners and transport them to a new realm yet, still remain familiar and relatable. I hope that with this I can be a guiding force of inspiration and pensiveness.
MM: Biggest, wildest dream that has yet to come true?
IYVES: A wild dream of mine is to record an album in outer space.
MM: What are you currently listening too?
IYVES: I’ve recently fallen in love with Braids! I saw them and was blown away.
MM: Biggest inspirations?
IYVES: The artists I draw from the most are, James Blake, Thom Yorke and my girl Lianne La Havas.
MM: When will your EP be released?
IYVES: My EP is due to be released mid December! Perfect timing for you and you’re loved ones to sit around the fire and take a listen xo
