Maniac’s trip to Sarris Candies
No matter how old we are (or look), there really is a child in all of us. And we let ours come out to play at Sarris Candies just last week.
In business for over 50 years, the candy factory has transformed into a one of a kind family business. Candy man, Frank Sarris started producing chocolate in his basement for friends and family, until he was able to make more and turn his hobby into a full time career. He and his wife, Athena, built a candy shop and moved into an apartment above the store.
In 1982, Frank and his son, Bill, who is now the President of the company, created an old-fashioned ice cream parlour. The business is still family-owned and operated and we got the chance to hang with third-generation candy entrepreneur Athena Sarris Simms in the happiest places of all — Sarris Candies.
Sarris has truly evolved into a Pittsburgh landmark, where thousands of people come to Canonsburg each year to sample the homemade rich tasting chocolate, ice cream, and candy.
Inside the factory, there is a 1500 pound chocolate castle, along with a huge selection of chocolate, candy, life-life plush animals, and unique gifts. The ice cream parlour’s exclusive menu is full of enticing flavors, and their toppings are made fresh every day.
With Easter right around the corner, what better way to spend the holiday than with a trip to Sarris Candies? Your Easter baskets will be filled up with the best chocolate anyone has to offer all while experiencing the magic at Sarris Candies. Aren’t we all wide-eyed kids at heart?
