Lady Gaga and American Horror Story unite, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. In November of 2013, leading lady and audience favorite, Jessica Lange announced that the fourth season of American Horror Story would be her last. After four years of starring roles in the FX anthology series, the actress stated that the show simply took up too much time and left her with too little for herself. So, when the end of season four’s “Freak Show” rolled around last month, fans were more devastated than usual, knowing that they had seen the last of Lange’s bewitchingly complex characters.
But as sad as Lange’s departure was, the announcement and the end of the season left fans of the show wondering who would replace her…and in what setting? Wednesday morning brought both answers as a video by mother monster herself, Lady Gaga, was tweeted out and quickly went viral. The 12-second clip showed the pop star wearing a mask and announcing the theme of next season’s show: Hotel. After revealing her face, it became apparent, much to the public’s excitement, that Lady Gaga would indeed be taking over for Jessica Lange in the upcoming season.
After four seasons of murderers, demons, witches, and killer clowns, it has become very clear that American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy’s mind works in mysterious and wonderful ways. And anyone who has seen any of Gaga’s music videos knows she exists in a world that is just as dark and fantastical. A true match made in heaven (or hell). While no one can say for sure what the fifth season of the show will bring, I think it is safe to say that we are all in for a terrifyingly entertaining season.
