Market St. Grocery VIP Preview Event
Over the last few years Downtown Pittsburgh’s food scene has been booming with new restaurants opening one after the other, but there’s been one thing missing— a grocery store. It’s been two years in the making, but tonight we were thrilled to finally celebrate the upcoming opening of the Market St. Grocery. This evening’s VIP Preview gave us a taste of what we all can expect from downtown’s new “it” spot. The official opening is set for April 22nd.
Market St. Grocery is the vision of restaurant owners Ernie and Julian Vallozzi and developers Ralph Falbo and David Priselac, Jr. The market is unlike anything else in Market Square, let alone the city of Pittsburgh. The location is prime targeting Downtown residents, the business community, and even those traveling from out of town thanks to a number of hotels just minutes (event seconds) away. Market St. Grocery will carry a variety of items including fresh prepared foods, delicious produce, an extensive cheese selection, fresh baked artisan breads, full service meat, poultry, and seafood cases, and so much more.
One unique feature is the coffee station and liquor bar, offering speciality drinks, coffee and teas by day and alcoholic cocktails by night. A selection of beer and wine will also be available on site. Pastry-lovers are in luck with Gaby et Jules on site. The French patisserie is best known for it’s incredible baked goods served out of their main Squirrel Hill location, but a second location is now part of Market St. Grocery.
One of the most unique highlights of the market is the The Collefrisio Winery at Market St. Grocery, which is located in the back of the space separated by a glass wall. Not only can you purchase wine on site, but you can also sip some vino while shopping or even come in solely for a glass of wine with friends. Truly a great concept.
Michael LaMantia, the in-house-chef, will be providing prepared foods like sandwiches, soups, and salads, perfect for those looking for quick, quality food. Chef will also be creating a catering menu to be available for special events, meetings, and other gatherings.
Be sure to head to Market Square for the official grand opening of Market St. Grocery on April 22nd.
