International Treasure: One Gem’s Rise to the Top
GEMOLOGUE, the brainchild of London-based and New York City-educated gemologist Liza Urla, is an award-winning, multi-cultural, fashion and jewelry blog. Since its inception in 2009, the blog has become rapidly successful, and has garnered a worldwide following. In April 2015 it won Best Blog in Fashion Category at the UK Blog Awards. The reason? Liza Urla is a woman with raw, limitless talent and style.
At this time, Liza has collaborated with over a hundred jewelry brands, travelled to numerous countries, and has lived in Russia, Austria, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In addition to GEMOLOGUE, she has translated her love for travel and watches into another blog she co-founded, entitled WATCH THE SPACE. Her talent has also been utilized by high-end print publications, as she is also the ongoing Jewelry Contributor for Vogue Ukraine.
Adding yet another great accomplishment to Urla’s already extensive list, is GEMOLOGUE’s collaboration with Chanel Fine Jewelry, where the two put together an editorial shoot at the neo-Palladian villa known as the Chiswick house. Built in 1729, the Chiswick house is a popular venue for art showings, events, and is frequented by tourists. However, Chanel closed off the Chiswick House to the public for an entire day so that GEMOLOGUE could shoot the jewelry in private.
Liza Urla’s star continues to rise to bigger and greater heights. In anticipation of last year’s British Academy of Film and Television awards, GEMOLOGUE collaborated with YOKO, London, the official jeweler of the BAFTAs. On GEMOLOGUE’s website, you can see Urla picking out and trying on jewels that BAFTA nominees and celebrities wore to one of the biggest awards shows of the year. Urla and GEMOLOGUE’s expertise was even sought out by print giant Harper’s Bazaar; asking GEMOLOGUE to select, style, and photograph antique jewelry for their coverage of the LAPADA Art and Antiques fair.
Liza found her voice through GEMOLOGUE; a blog that creates a dialogue about gems. Through GEMOLOGUE she is able to showcase and style fine, costume, and antique jewelry, discuss her many world travels, and showcase exclusive interviews with other jewelers and rare jewelry reviews.
