Dale Chihuly isn’t your average glass blower. In fact, looking at his website there is no mention of the term “glass blowing” at all. His work is simply referred to as art, which anyone would agree is completely accurate after looking through his impressive portfolio of work.
His current style of work evolved after working at the Venini glass factory in Venice, Italy. Since then, his work has been included in over 200 museum collections and has appeared in large architectural installations. One of his most famous pieces resides in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. A chandelier called the Fiori di Como is exhibited in the 18-foot ceiling of the hotel lobby. It consists of over 2,000 hand-blown glass blossoms and some 40,000 pounds of glass. It’s a colorful sight filled with rich reds, blues, and yellows that create a unique lighting experience found nowhere else in the world.
It is worth checking out his entire collection of work on his website where you can view all of his creations including glass towers, chandeliers, boat installations, and pool installations. If you want to see Chihuly’s work in person, there’s a long list of places around the world where his art can be viewed.
