Read Your Way Through Winter
Let’s face it: Winter sucks. It’s cold and gloomy and in good old Western PA, it really narrows down the things-to-do-for-fun list. I decided that I needed to stop Netflix binging (insane, I know) and find some new books to read. I did a little research and came up with a curated list of newer books that will be sure to get rid of your boredom. There are memoirs, educational stories, and books that can help you improve your health, life, and happiness. So curl up with some hot chocolate and your favorite blanket and start reading these books to get you through winter!
The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever By Teri Agins
I liked the sound of this book because it goes beyond the glitz and the glamour and takes a harder look at the marketing aspect of the clothing and fashion industry. This would definitely be a good read for someone who is interested in fashion merchandising or fashion marketing.
My Paris Dream: An Education in Style, Slang, and Seduction in the Great City on the Seine by Kate Betts
My Dad bought me this book because he read raving reviews about it from several fashion publications. According to Amazon, it’s a “charming and insightful memoir about coming of age as a fashion journalist in 1980s Paris, by former Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar editor Kate Betts.” I love reading personal stories about powerful people in the fashion industry and this book is as inspiring as it is entertaining. I think anyone would favor this book, whether you’re into fashion or not!
Better Than Before: What I Learned About Making and Breaking Habits–to Sleep More, Quit Sugar, Procrastinate Less, and Generally Build a Happier Life
Around this time of year, I feel that I am more motivated than ever to get on the healthy track, after all New Years Resolutions has been set and swimsuit weather is just around the corner. However, it is also a really bad time of the year because of all the sweets and treats and drinks you want to consume with the holidays and the weather. I cannot wait to dive into this book and hopefully kick a few bad habits in the process. Gretchen’s books are some of my favorites (The Happiness Project was a life-changer kind of a book for me), so I’m sure this one doesn’t disappoint!
Love Style Life by Garance Dore
This New York Times Bestseller seems to overflow with wisdom, inspiration and motivation for any young and aspiring fashion professional. Amazon says the book includes “stories on life, love, style, and career, from Paris to New York, and inspires readers to cultivate an effortless chic that is all their own.”
Eat Pretty: Nutrition For Beauty Inside and Out by Jolene Hart
When the title and cover of a book already too cute to handle, you know it’s a good buy. According to Amazon, “Eat Pretty offers a full lifestyle makeover, exploring stress management, hormonal balance, and mindful living. Charts and lists, plus nearly 20 recipes, make for a delicious and infinitely useful package—in the kitchen, at the grocer, and on the go.” What’s not to love?!
Drew is not only one of my favorite actresses and human beings in general, she’s also a great author. This New York Best Seller includes stories of the past and present in Drew’s life that has made her who she is today. Love and happiness are common themes in the book and her genuine insightfulness will keep you turning page after page.
