Okay, so we’re not out of the harsh cold/wet/rain/bi-polar weather just yet! Sadly, since these times seem to take the longest, I was thinking up some ways to make the days go by in a hopefully quicker sense. When the weather is bad, I’m a huge fan of putting on some jammies, slippers, blanket, hot cup of tea, and a book. I know, totally old lady status, right? Don’t judge. If you enjoy reading, it is actually a great way to make the days go by when you have nothing else to do and it’s too gross to go outside. I’ve done the liberty of picking out some books that multiple websites agree, you should read in your 20s, or at least before you’re 30. I’ve condensed the list and picked 10 of the ones listed that I can personally vouch as great books for this decade of your life.
In no particular order:
1. The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath
The emotional story of a women falling into insanity while living in NYC.
2. The Sun Also Rises – Ernest Hemingway
Post World-War 1 generation, Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley take on life’s most spectacular journeys. From Paris nightlife to Spain bullfights, definitely a story worth reading.
3. Bossypants – Tina Fey
Do you have a dream you plan on making come true? Liz Lemon had two, here’s how she did it.
4. Siddhartha – Hermann Hesse
My personal favorite, a story of self-discovery. Title translation: “he who has found meaning (of existence).”
5. The Catcher in the Rye – J.D. Salinger
A literary classic, the story of Holden Caulfield and his perception of growing up in a world that is pretty “fucked up.”
6. Lit – Mary Karr
A memoir about alcoholism and learning to be honest with yourself.
7. Dear Diary – Lesley Arfin
Revisit Lesley’s dark dairy from ages 12-25.
