There’s nothing better in the summer than to lay out in the sun by the pool, but when a rainy day comes around it’s hard to find something fun to do. The next rainy day when you’re at a loss for what to do just make a cup of tea, grab a couple of your good girl friends and do some crafting. Here are a few of my favorites I’ve found online.
Flowered initials:
Grab a hot glue gun, flowers (dried or live), a glue gun, cardboard initials, a box cutter, and either green oasis foam or gray oasis foam. If you decide to use dried flowers you’ll need gray oasis foam and for live flowers you’ll need gray oasis.
First cut the cardboard initials in half so you have a shallow area to put the gray or green oasis in, then cut and arrange the oasis foam into the letter, make sure they’re super glued down, and finally insert flowers into the foam. That’s all! It’s fun, simple, and easy. I think it’s also a great idea to use as a gift.
Distressed mason jars:
Mason jars seem to be all over social media, and the distressed look is my favorite. All you need is a mason jar, acrylic paint of your favorite color, sanding block, or a nail file. With the nail file you have more control over how much paint comes off, and you can get into smaller spaces, but it’s really all in preference. First paint the mason jar with the acrylic paint and let it dry overnight, then the next day distress it with the nail file or sanding block, and finally paint a coat of water-resistant, scratch-resistant enamel. And you’re done! They can be used for pencils, pens, flowers, or just decoration on a desk or mantle. They can be wiped down, but never completely submerged in water or run in the dishwasher. It’s a fun, simple way to take a distressed look, and fast.
Fairies in a jar:
Another really fun and easy project you can do with mason jars is “Fairies in a Mason Jar”. All you have to do is cut a glow stick and shake all the contents into a jar, add diamond glitter, and then seal the top. That’s all! It’ll glow in the dark, and it’s also a great centerpiece for an outside summer party at night.
Lipstick picture frame:
A great way to keep memories with friends around is getting a white board, and a frame with it. Have all of your friends put on their favorite red lipstick, and sign their name underneath. Then frame it, and you’re done! It’s a great cute memory you’ll love to have around you; it’s also a nice gift to the bride from the bridesmaids.
Wine Cork board:
All you need for this is a shallow shadow box and old used wine corks. Hot glue the corks onto the box, and it’s an instant cork board. So much cheaper than one you could buy, and a great excuse to crack open that wine with all of your girl friends!
Bedazzled liquor bottles:
This is a great gift for your best girlfriend. Buy her, her favorite liquor bottle and grab a glue gun, glitter, and sparkles and bedazzle away! She can keep the bottle after it’s empty, and use it for a flower vase. Super easy, and super cheap to do.
Gardening rocks:
If you love to garden, summer is the best time to do it. All you need are some rocks, acrylic paints, and some designs in your head. My personal favorites are when people label what plant is planted there, but inspirational words are great too! There are so many different ways you can make this easy craft your own.
These are just a few of my favorite fun and easy crafts. Try them out and let me know what you think!
