Ever get bored with a playlist on your ipod or get tired of listening to the same tracks on the radio day in and day out? It’s almost impossible to know whether you’re in the mood for a loud hip-hop song with a sick base or a soft indie rock track to just muse to. Well, if you’re ever nomadically surfing the web or if you just didn’t find anything appealing on the iTunes store, why not try to update and broaden your musical horizons with Musicovery or Stereomood.
Musicovery is essentially an internet radio whose goal is to assist users in discovering new music. It is unlike other web radios in the sense that it caters to where your mood falls on a “mood pad”. The “mood pad” resembles a dotted square where the dot you choose dictates what music you’ll be exposed to or just leave the settings be and be surprised by new material. Your mood can be anything from Dark to Calm to Positive to Energetic as well as anything around or in between. After finding where your mood falls, you decide whether you want to exclude tracks from certain decades or genres, which helps to filter out music you know you wouldn’t want. There are tons of genres and there is even a feature that is called “Lab”. It resembles a scatterplot of popular songs, color-coded by genre and organized as a timeline stretching from before 1950 to 2010-a music map. This site is excellent for anybody who wants to have some musical variety and this site definitely helps to expose users to artists they may not have listened to on their own. Musicovery is interactive and very enriching.
Another great resource for music lovers is Stereomood. Stereomood is a music streaming service. This site works similarly to Musicovery but caters directly to how you feel or what you’re doing. The first thing you’ll see on the site is a search bar where you can type whatever it is you’re feeling or doing. I actually typed in dancing and got a really upbeat playlist that I loved. The site has an unbelievably vast array of moods to choose from- nothing seems too out of context in terms of music. Say you’re stuck indoors on a weekday afternoon while it’s pouring outside and you don’t really know what your ears are in the mood for; there is a mood called “It’s Raining”. Stereomood also allows users to tag songs according to what they may be feeling and if you like a song, you can add it to your favorites and then makes mixes of your own. Typically, you have particular songs in mind that you listen to when you’re feeling a certain way or a playlist you put on shuffle while you’re working out but just some food for thought: Stereomood basically does the work for you.
Both sites are extremely easy to use and are especially useful to those of you with a hectic schedule who don’t have the time to compose your own playlists. For music lovers who are particularly interested in discovering new material, Musicovery may be the way to go. For the one who need playlist especially designed for that walk in the park or just a lonely afternoon, Stereomood will do the trick. Musicovery and Stereomood are must haves for any music lover.
