Pittsburgh isn’t just a city of champions, it’s also a city of cinema. Since the early 1990’s, the Pittsburgh Film Office has been marketing movies in and around the Pittsburgh area. Some of the more popular ones being: Dawn of the Dead (1979 and 1990 remake), Flashdance (1982), The Silence of the Lambs (1990), The Mothman Prophecies (2001), Bridge to Nowhere (2007), and My Bloddy Valentine 3-D (2008).
Some of the more recent films include: Unstoppable (2009), Warrior (2009), and Love and other Drugs (2009).
With the introduction of Mogul Mind Studios, Pittsburgh is planning big things with up-and-coming films currently in production.
Mogul Mind Studios is one of the largest film studios in North America. Located in the Strip District, not far from Downtown Pittsburgh is the 330,000 square foot facility. The studio houses six spaces that range from 7,5000 square feet to 38,000+ square feet. It’s hard to believe there’s still room for make-shift areas for hair, makeup, wardrobe, and prop shops.
What makes “Six-Burgh” so special, (besides being home to the Steelers and Penguins), Mogul Mind Studios says, “Pittsburgh offers a versatile backdrop for film and television production. The changing seasons, the three major rivers, bridges, rolling hills, stadiums, casino, cityscape, and many other locations make it an accommodating city for almost any project.”
Movies currently being filmed in Pittsburgh are I Am Number Four (Dreamworks), One for the Money, (Lakeshore Entertainment), Abduction (Lionsgate), and Riddle (Riddle The Movie, LLC).
