It may be snowing in Pittsburgh but that doesn’t stop us from supporting the arts. We’re fully prepared to bundle in layers and brave the weather this Friday, January 25 because nothing is stopping us from taking in the sights. What’s better than FREE admission to the plethora of galleries and entertainment options in the Cultural District? We’ll tell you. Not much.
Pittsburgh’s Downtown Cultural District is a fourteen-square block area bordered by the Allegheny River on the north, Tenth Street on the east, Stanwix Street on the west, and Liberty Avenue on the south. All official Gallery Crawl locations will be marked with a Cultural District Stop sidewalk sign. Guests can to roam the area and visit any of the 27 venues that will be open and offering a variety of cultural events and exhibitions.
The Cultural District has held quarterly crawls ever since 2004. The idea came together when the larger galleries, like Wood Street Galleries and SPACE held parties for the opening of a new exhibit. The combination of all openings and events into one night allows visitors to get a true taste of what the District has to offer. If art isn’t your thing, other businesses are using the night to allow people to try them out. Bend Yoga is offering free yoga classes for all levels at 7 p.m. during the Gallery Crawl. Pre-registration is encouraged by e-mailing mcallan@bendyoga.com.
Other events and performances during the Gallery Crawl will include Steel Town Fire, fire dancers who will be performing outside in Katz Plaza at 7th Street and Penn Avenue, dance performances by Continuum Dance Theater in the lower level of the Trust Arts Education Center at 805-807 Penn Ave., a musical performance by Eclectic Laboratory Chamber Orchestra (E.L.C.O.), a group that will be performing new music by the singer Beck on the fourth floor of the Trust Arts Education Center, and many more.
The quarterly showcase of art and entertainment is open to the public and ongoing between 5:30 and 9:00 pm. Attendees may start at any location. For special exclusive offers and more text “CRAWL” to SMASH (76274)
