Attention all you color junkies, ravers, makeup artists, club kids, drag queens and Harajuku lovers: There’s a new line of cosmetics you need to know about. It’s called Sugarpill and offers a kaleidoscopic range of high quality pressed eye shadows and loose pigments. Sugarpill even includes a small selection of not-so-small lashes to complete the look. The line is cruelty-free and only a year old; it was created to satisfy the growing demand for shocking-colored makeup in the underground club scene. The owner and founder, Amy, is herself every bit the vibrant femme, her doll-like features and hair accentuated with flashes of neon pink, blue and purple.
Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadows are rich and velvety in texture; they layer and blend well to create seamless ombre effects. My personal favorites are Poison Plum, a unique shocking purple, and Afterparty, a campy aquatic blue worthy of Warhol’s Marilyn.
If you’re the type who’s into glittery, blinging lids you’ll also love the Chromalust sparkling Loose Eyeshadows. The Chromalust in Stella gets my vote for highest wearability: it’s a jet black with superfine diamond rainbow sparkle that will play up that standard smoky eye in a snap. Also you’re not likely to find many duplicates of the Chromalust in Royal Sugar, the brightest of royal blues with turquoise sparkle. (It’s worth noting that on the website Royal Sugar is touted as “The perfect hooker blue for a sweet girl like you.” Love it.)
Sugarpill Cosmetics are available at www.sugarpillshop.com. Eyeshadows retail for $12.
