La Prairie Cellular Power Charge Night: Plump your skin, drain your bank account!
Cult Swiss skincare company La Prairie, best known for integrating luxury and science to develop powerful anti-aging skin care concoctions, has added a new potion to its roster: Cellular Power Charge Night. This overnight anti-aging treatment incorporates oxygen and retinol for maximum cell-rejuvenation; oxygen is infused into the skin via a “synthetic oxygen transfer agent” by the name perfluorodecalin, as retinol encourages cell regeneration.
Despite a dwindling economy, the 30ml bottle retails at $475, not unlike other La Prairie treatments which retail for upwards of $600 a pop. Laboratoires La Prairie traces its roots back to the Clinique La Prairie in Switzerland, est. 1932. There, a certain cellular therapy pioneer named Professor Paul Niehans developed a “Revitalization” treatment whereby he “injected fresh cells from lamb fetuses into his patients.” Ouch. La Prairie broke away from the clinic in 1982 (perhaps due to, ahem, ethical reasons?) and continues to be a leader in luxury anti-aging skin care technology.
The formula itself is quite lovely; the white retinol cream and blue PFD serum are housed separately within the vial, but are pumped together to create a mysteriously pleasant gel-whip consistency. In keeping with most luxury skin creams, the fragrance is a touch Grandma-esque, but the results are quite astonishing.
As a makeup artist I’ve had the opportunity to test many La Prairie treatments, and with all honesty this is by far the most amazing. Skeptical as I was, when I awoke the morning after my FIRST application of Cellular Power Charge Night, my face felt like a baby’s behind. My skin just looked, well, plumper; little fine lines around the nose and eyes seemed to have faded. Could I be suffering from placebo effect? Perhaps… But my trained eye says otherwise.
La Prairie Cellular Power Charge Night is available at www.shoplaprairie.com and Saks Fifth Avenue.
