So maybe you’ve read up on it a little but… but what’s with all of the rumors about coconut oil as a multi-use beauty product? We’re here to set the rumors straight.
Coconut oil as a deodorant: It works! Although I do love my cucumber and green tea scented Dove deodorant, coconut oil does work as a natural, and pretty nice smelling, deodorant. Take a little dollop of the coconut oil and warm it up between your hands. Once it’s melted enough to absorb into your skin, just apply it with your hands to your underarms. It takes a few seconds to absorb, as most deodorants do, but once it does, you are good to go!
Coconut oil as a body moisturizer: I love this! It definitely is a great product for moisturizing. My favorite place to use coconut oil on my body are the tops and of my hands and knuckles, and also my elbows. Elbows are known for being notoriously dry and cracked but this solves the problem. Put a little coconut oil on your elbows, and I promise within days you’ll see a difference.
Coconut oil as a face moisturizer: This is one of my very favorite uses. After my face is cleaned and before I go to bed, I rub coconut oil lightly over my entire face. I make sure to cover my eyelids and under eyes too. I usually do this regimen before going to bed because your face will look and feel a little greasy. When I wake up in the morning my skin feels and looks brighter and softer. Bye-bye dark circles!
Coconut oil as a hair conditioner and moisturizer:It’s true! This definitely works for conditioning, moisturizing, and giving a great sheen to your hair. What I do is before bed, or a few hours before showering I take a little coconut oil to warm up in my fingertips. I use it at the tips of my hair, since my roots get enough natural oil from my scalp. After letting it sit of r a few hours, or overnight, I shower and my hair looks and feels great.
Coconut oil as a teeth whitener: Eh, I’ll pass on this one… Although I do believe that it probably works—it apparently can break down plaque that water, toothpaste and mouthwash cannot— swishing around a big glob of coconut oil for a few minutes isn’t quite what I call enjoyable. It tastes bad, feels gross, and I’d rather whiten my teeth in other ways. But that’s just my personal preference, you can try it yourself and let us know what YOU think!
For all of these coconut oil beauty uses make sure to use an organic, unrefined coconut oil. You can find it at Trader Joe’s for $5.99.
