If you’re anything like me, you’re counting down the days to the sweltering summer heat that we see so rarely here in Pittsburgh. I mean, not only is the winter uncomfortable and inconvenient, it also takes a major toll on our appearances.
But years of dealing with chapped lips, flaking skin, and watery eyes have taught me that there is a way to counteract the damaging affects of winter. Beauty experts say that every woman should stock up in beauty essentials in two shades: one for cold weather (read: pale skin) and another for sunny days and bronzed skin – but for me, winter weather demands a whole new beauty arsenal. Read below for some of my top picks.
Moisturizer: Cold weather is notoriously drying, so a rich moisturizer is essential. Bobbi Brown Brightening Moisture Cream ($70) not only heals dry skin, it also adds a subtle brightness to reverse the dulling affect that winter often has.
Lip treatment: Guinot Longue Vie Vital Lip Care ($24) is the most amazing, softening lip treatment. Apply it overnight and wake up with soft, smooth lips.
Body cream: Winter is the perfect time to pamper yourself with a full-body coat of cream – you could splurge, but I’ve found that Gold Bond products work just as well.
Liquid eyeliner: Pencils will inevitably run down your face with those cold-weather0induced watery eyes, so liquid is your best bet. MAC’s liquid liner ($17.50) has a tapered brush, which makes application easier, and the highly pigmented formula goes on dark and bold.
Matte lipstick: Gloss is pretty for summer, but matte formulas will make your skin look dewy in comparison. Tarte’s Lipsurgence Natural Matte Liptints go on smoothly and come in adorable crayon-inspired packaging.
