Are you curious about what makeup to wear this spring? One of the beauty challenges that real women consistently face is how to make runway trends wearable in their day to day lives. With such a variety of makeup looks presented at the collections, not to mention the dizzying array of new products on the shelves, the world of runway beauty can be difficult to navigate.
I had the pleasure of speaking with New York-based celebrity makeup artist Michelle Coursey, who has worked with the likes of Mariah Carey, Emma Stone and Petra Nemcova, to name a few. She’s also a regular backstage each season at New York fashion week. I asked her to divulge her favorite beauty trends for spring that women can take from the runway to real life, and this is what she told me:
- 1. “A bright pop of color somewhere on the face, whether it’s a super bright lipstick, eyeliner or eyeshadow, is a really quick and easy way to brighten up your look.”
- 2. Androgyny (girl/boy, blurred gender lines) was in. While some of you girly-girls may not find this appealing, it’s actually quite a flattering way to modernize your look. Coursey suggested a very user-friendly approach, “which translates to strong brows, clean skin and minimal makeup on the rest of the face.”
- 3. “Imperfect makeup” is the “easiest trend of all to achieve” she said. “No need to worry about perfectly applied lipstick or precisely drawn eyeliner; makeup artists embraced makeup that was smudged on and worn in, which is something everyone can do! A great example of this is the “Popsicle lip” where the bulk of the color is applied to the center of the lips and then allowed to bleed out naturally to the edges of the mouth.”
