Jeffrey Smith Studio is a lot more than a place to indulge in glamorous blowouts, luxurious cuts, scandalous gossip, and even a much-needed wax; it’s a full lifestyle experience.
In 2002, Jeffrey Smith made a daring move, packing up his stable styling career in Shadyside to create a new salon in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Lawrenceville. Jeffrey Smith is a pioneer of Lawrenceville, opening his boutique salon when the area’s future was anything but certain. Smith was determined to be a part of something larger than himself, and hoped that his personal success would aid in the neighborhood’s progress and development. Now that Lawrenceville is a flourishing cultural hub, its streets populated with chic boutiques and trendy restaurants, Smith has decided that it is time for another grand move.
At the time of its opening, there were only three people, including Smith, working at the salon. Now, just a few years later, the team includes over fifteen employees. In the last 12 years, Jeffrey Smith Studio saturated its clientele’s hair with dye and brushed glistening coats of polish upon their fingernails, the salon grew tremendously, and Smith has ventured into new artistic domains.
In Fall 2013, Smith embarked upon an exploration of his creativity, uncovering his passion for jewelry design. Now every season Smith produces a distinct line of custom jewelry, composed primarily of earrings and necklaces. Inspired by his travels and experiences, Smith’s creations are unique and utilize an array of unconventional materials that are often from cultures that are unfamiliar to many East Coast residents.
Jeffrey Smith Studios has reached a tipping point, so the group decided it is ready for a new challenge. He says he wants “to make a change, and do something different.” Just as Smith put his faith into the now thriving Lawrenceville community, he says he is ready to build up Highland Park, and be a part of what is happening on Bryant Street. The new salon, which will be up and running by November 2014, will be much larger than the current space in Lawrenceville in order to accommodate the new arenas they hope to explore, such as permanent cosmetics, eyelash extensions, and showcasing his jewelry collections.
The rejuvenation of the studio will extend to its atmosphere, as the new location will have an entirely new look. Unlike the current studio, whose design is greatly influenced by the building’s traditional architecture, the new studio’s ultramodern furnishings will be inspired by the progressive and forward thinking nature of the brand.
