Christin Kim, founder of Chrisu, has revolutionized the timeless silk scarf. Each scarf shares its own story, beginning as a watercolor drawing, then turned into a digital image, and sent to be printed on quality silk. Gearing Chrisu towards a younger clientele, Christin, and avid scarf collector, knew she had to do things differently. She acknowledged that most scarves in the market felt old-fashioned, which she believed to be because of the shininess to the silk. She noticed that she gravitated towards scarves with a matte finish, which is why her artwork is printed on Crepe De Chine and Chiffon silk. They both have a luxurious feel, matte finish, and can be worn year-round. All Chrisu scares are 50inx50in, which makes the possibilities to styling them endless. They’re worn effortlessly over a plain v-neck sweater or even a t-shirt. Recently, she’s been styling them boho-chic, by tying multiple knots, and making it into a necklace, but she encourages people to experiment. Thanks to Chrisu scarves, us modern ladies, no longer have to wear silk scarves in the traditional way, because size is no longer the limit.
Christin graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Fine Arts degree. She then took her Fine Arts background to Connecticut, where she launched Chrisu in early 2013. Chrisu strives to preserve the artistic elegance of hand illustrated silk scarves, with a balance of contemporary digitalized culture and concept. Her 2014 collection is about illusion and perspective of space. In her ‘No Diving Allowed’ scarf, the swimmers seem to be diving deep, but in reality, they may just be lying on a tile floor in a diving position. She’ll be unveiling her ‘Rapper’s LOVE’ collection on April 15th at the Henri Bendel flagship store located on the upper eastside of 5th Avenue. It was inspired by a darker side of love, she states that, “Not every love story is filled with pink hearts and red juicy lips, sometimes love can be conditional and materialistic”. She portrays this with a unique twist to different types of love, with humorous and elegant images.
