During a recent interview with British singer-songwriter Mika, he was asked what his most played song on his iPod was as of recently. He laughed and responded, “Lately it’s been Pompeii by Bastille.” My curiosity peaked, as I immediately researched the London-based band’s newest album on Spotify. Upon listening to their encouraging words accompanied by their friendly pop sound of their number-two-charted song in the UK, it was love at first verse.
But, what exactly does the band’s name originate from?
The name Bastille may strike a historical nerve, as the name derives from France’s annual parade to celebrate their uprising and ending of the French revolution on July 14, 1790. And with the dance-worthy, upbeat music produced by Bastille, who wouldn’t celebrate?
What has Bastille been up to?
The band released their first debut single , “Overjoyed” from the “Bad Blood” album in April 2012, another (“Bad Blood”) in August and their third (“Flaws”) which gained the most popularity and provided the band’s its upcoming respectable status onto the Top 40 charts.
Bastille’s creative juices are flowing rapidly, as their newest album release is set for digital download August 24th.
