Emeli Sande has broken The Beatles record of top charting hit for 63 consecutive weeks in a row and is now one of the biggest names in music. This Scottish artist is #1 for 63 weeks on the Official Albums chart for her single “Next to Me”, beating the Beatles’ hit “Please Please Me” for the first time since the 60’s. While she has beaten their record by only a week, she’s not a household name in the states yet but it’s only just a matter of time.
Her career started with a video recorded by her sister and she sent it into one of BBC’s contests. She won but they didn’t end up giving her a deal. She met producer “Naughty Boy” after sending in a single to BBC radio and was soon signed with EMI Records and Virgin Records. She has been writing music since she was 11 and has written music for many celebrities such as Cher Lloyd, Parade, Rihanna, Susan Boyle, Cheryle Cole, and Leona Lewis. Coincidentally her name is Adele but when she saw her success she decided to go by her middle name Emeli. Not only is she talented, but she’s smart too. She decided to go to med school at the University of Glasglow but quit her fourth year to focus on her music.
