Perfect Indoor Plants for your Home
Even if you are still in denial that summer is officially over (don’t worry, we are too), pretty soon we won’t be able to deny the brutal Pittsburgh winter. When the temperature starts dropping and the warm sunshine is just a memory, we can add a little touch of nature to our homes with the help of indoor plants. Even if your thumbs aren’t the slightest shade of green these five plants are perfect to spruce up you home all year long. Indoor plants are relatively low maintenance and can really add a unique, feel-good touch to your home.
1. Pothos
This indoor plant is easy to care for because it can survive in varying degrees of water, light and temperatures.. You do have to be careful with this plant because it is poisonous if ingested, so be sure to keep it out of reach of children and pets. Another plus of this plant is it works to purify the air in your home, so it’s not only adding style, but making your home healthier as well!
2. English Ivy
This plant is a personal favorite because of its versatility. It will vertically grow if given a support structure or will tumble down the sides of elevated planters. English Ivy typically does well in moderately dry soil in a shady area and also works overtime to purify the air in your home.
3. Shamrock Plant
Shamrock plants look just like they sound. They have little shamrock shaped leaves and will grow adorable, tiny white flowers off their stems. They grow best in brightly light places, but do not prefer direct sunlight. Shamrock plants need watered only about once a week so they will fit perfectly into your busy life.
4. Peperomia
Peperomia is a popular choice of indoor house plant because it comes in a variety of colors and shapes ranging from deep purples to rainforest greens. They do best in moderate light with moist soil. But don’t go crazy on the watering; peperomia can be easily overwatered!
5. Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree
If you want to make a big statement in your home try out a fiddle leaf fig tree. They get their name from their leaves, which are shaped like, as you probably guessed, miniature fiddles. These trees will grow quite tall, and fast, if properly taken care of, but be cautious, as the leaves are poisonous to pets.
