Converse Introduces Its Reinvention: The Chuck II
“Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent. Gotta kiss myself, I’m so pretty.” Um, don’t you mean Chuck IIs, Bruno?!
This week, Converse made one of the biggest announcements to ever come to the shoe world. They’ve reinvented their iconic Chuck Taylor All-Stars! This is the first time that the legendary brand has made any kind of design change to their Chucks in the last 98 years. (History time: Did you even KNOW that Chucks have been around for that long?! Yep! Since 1917!)
After the brand went bankrupt in 2003, mega-mogul Nike took over the company. It’s this new ownership that allowed for the creation of the Chuck IIs. They incorporate Nike technology with the inclusion of a material called Lunarlon (used in Nike’s more athletic shoes), which allows for a more comfortable fit. (We all love our classic CT’s, but come on, they are not comfortable to wear for more than a few hours.)
The outsides of the Chuck IIs will be very similar to the originals, with only slight differences. The eyelets and laces on the new editions will match the color of the shoe, of which there are currently four options. You can purchase the sneakers in (very pigmented) Black, White, Salsa Red, or Sodalite Blue! The black stripe on the rubber sidewall has also been replaced with a white one. We consider these changes to be tiny upgrades that would only be noticed when holding two different pairs next to each other.
These new kicks are, of course, going to be available in both high-top and low-top options, but at a slight price hike. High-tops will be $75 and low-tops will be $70. Not bad at all! The Chuck IIs will be available beginning on July 28th at converse.com!
